Simple things your future self will thank you for

Today, I’d love to share 3 simple things to do today, that your future self will thank you for. Have other to add to the list? I’d love to hear from you. Either email me or tell me on Instagram, and I will add it in next week’s email.

Hope this list brings someone some joy today. 💫

  1. Self care

I had a friend this weekend tell me that she has decided to plan t 1 self care moment for herself each month. EACH MONTH?!

No.

That just isn’t enough. And I am not being unrealistic when I say that because I do not think self care has to be big grand gestures.

Simple Self-Care:

→ 👸 Compliment yourself every morning in the mirror… You are awesome!
→ 🗣 Learn affirmations that pump you up that you can say to yourself and low moments… “I am enough!”
→ 🙆‍♀️ Stretch… touch those toes, and hold each stretch without bouncing for 15 seconds.
→ 🍏 Eat well, and don’t skip meals.
→ 🧘‍♀️ 5-10 minute meditation or breath work.
→ 📞 Call a friend
→ 📖 Read a book
→ 🙏 Say thank you for 3 things you are grateful for
→ 🍴Eat mindfully

2. Limit your scrolling time

Limit your social media time. I know very well the time sucking that comes from excessive and unnecessary scrolling. It certainly can be a time waster, and does not add value to an already busy day. I suggest choosing an hour or 2 at different points of the day - and use only that time to get your fix. Then put the phone away! I ALWAYS have my phone on silent, accessible only for work items or urgencies during the day. (My family and friends have my home phone, used only for enjoyment and can reach me there anytime).

I feel the same way about texting. Most texts can wait, and texting is really just another word for interruption. If it is important, they will call, or they will wait. However, for parents, best to use the phone feature that allows certain numbers to come through while others are set on “Do not disturb” so you don’t miss anything crucial.

I always tell people to curate their social media in a way that allows for only viewing positivity. What do I mean? Follow only the people you care about, and only accounts that share content that is inspiring, uplifting, and positive. We already have enough negative noise around us - if you are going to find yourself scrolling through Instagram or TikTok, at least consume content that brings value to your day.

3. Healthy Living

Now, this is a broad statement - so I am going to simplify it:

→ Do not skip meals
→ Have balanced meals of protein, fats and carbs
→ Don’t eat in front of a television or with your phone
→ Take a moment before you eat to say thank you - you are lucky to have whatever it is you are eating.
→ Enjoy the art of preparation - take your time
→ Don’t let yourself get too hungry that when you finally eat, you grab at anything
→Eat slowly, mindfully, and gratefully
→Try to eat real, whole foods - organic wherever you can. Home made always over delivery (when possible)
→ Have a colourful plate - with variety
→ Try to meal prep, to make meal times easy and less stressful
→ Make a shopping list, so you don’t have to run out all the time or over shop
→ Plan meals ahead of time, to eliminate stress through the week.

I know these are all simple ideas, but they have big impact!

Your future self will always thank you for putting yourself, your health, and your mindset, first. In doing so, all areas of your life can thrive, including the relationship with yourself and others.
